The personal shield of Bishop David J. Davis, bishop of the Diocese of Mid-Eastern States, represents a marriage of his personal arms and those of the diocese he was chosen to lead by His Holiness, Mar Alexander, Pontiff Corey A. Jenkins.

Bishop Davis developed the basic concept for his personal arms. He created a unique design based upon classical heraldry taught by the Anglican Church, using his skills as a historian and expertise in ecclesial heraldry.

On this quarter shield, hatching the colors or Vert per panel are two symbols engaged each quarter: Or = yellow or gold, Gules+ red and, Vert = green.

The heraldic ordinaries of red stand for Embattled or green for Hope. The traditional hat of the bishop is called a Gallero; on each side of the hat are six tassels or foccia. Now come the symbols and their meaning: in the upper left quarter, state colors for a Maryland standard, two flowers stand for hope and joy, and to the right of them, a Templar’s Cross, which stands for martyrdom in Christianity.

Next, there is a cross, symbolizing the Savior’s vicarious death for the believer. Finally, there is the Holy Scriptures with it’s power to save those who are lost.

Symbolizing the Personal Shield of the BIshop to the left, of the crenelated dividing line, just below the crescent, suggests lamp and light of God’s word, and on the right, the Compass of the United Apostolic and Charismatic Church. This symbolizes our covering body under His Holiness, Mar Alexander, Supreme Pontiff, Corey Alexander Jenkins. The division line between the top and bottom halves is known as a “per pale double arch.” To the left is the Knights Templar Crossof eternal vigilance. The background of the lower section, below the division line, is also rendered in gold to symbolize the wisdom of God the Father, the divinity of Christ the Son, and the spiritual hunger of the Holy Spirit
